MMA Announces Substance Abuse Community Liaison

Release Date: March 06, 2017

Mahwah Municipal Alliance Appoints Dana Romano as a Substance Abuse Community Liaison

The Mahwah Municipal Alliance (MMA), a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization, is pleased to announce the appointment of Dana Romano to act as a community liaison and advocate for those families and individuals struggling with addiction.
The MMA has long recognized the need for a resource people can turn to for help when a family member or friend suffers from addiction or substance abuse. This one phone call to Ms. Romano can actually save a life and put someone on the road to recovery. The heroin and opioid epidemic knows no boundaries and sadly all too often people don't know where to turn. Ms. Romano and the services and advice she can provide may be the first step to recovery.

"We are excited to welcome Dana Romano as our community liaison," says Carolyn Blake, MMA executive committee member. "She is a well-known local voice in our community who will give residents a place to turn when they feel like they have nobody to speak with about the serious impact addiction and substance abuse has on their lives."

As the community advocate for the MMA, she will be available to residents 24/7 by cell phone at 551-500-4642. She will be able to assist those in substance related crisis or those who need guidance on substance abuse issues by referring them to appropriate services that are available including placing those individuals in inpatient treatment centers. Ms. Romano will also be able to explain many of the issues related to insurance coverage. All communications with Ms. Romano are strictly confidential and there is no fee to residents for her services.
Ms. Romano has a B.S. with a specialization in alcohol and substance abuse and a MSW from Fordham University. She is a Licensed Social Worker (LSW), as well as a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor. She is well known throughout the northeast corridor for her efforts in helping those battling addiction.
Funding for Ms. Romano is provided through a grant the Municipal Alliance received. To find out more about community liaison role and what she and the MMA will do to help those in need in their community, please visit
